Earlier this month Manse Capital welcomed two new industrial placements Matthew Chapman and Tom Malach, who are both studying Financial Services Planning and Management at Manchester Metropolitan University, to the team. Matt and Tom have just completed their second year of study and will return to Manchester for their final year following their year here.
Initially, Matt and Tom were studying Accounting and Finance along with 400 others on their course. However, following a rather ‘inspirational’ talk from Trevor Williamson, the convenor of the Financial Services Planning and Management course, they opted to switch courses. The prospect of being able to build strong and potentially life-long relationships with clients, whilst planning their finances to give them a secure future, appealed to them more so than accounting and finance.
In Matt and Tom’s year there are only around 30 other students, a stark contrast to the accounting and finance course! Matt says that the reason for this is because “when Trevor gave the talk the majority of our course did not know what Financial Planning is. We grow up hearing of the term ‘accountant’ as we do with teachers, lawyers and doctors, and financial planning is not one of them.”
Here at Manse we are aware of the need for a greater awareness of what financial planning really means, and that is why we are keen to support students to forge a career in this hugely rewarding career. For the past year, Millan Narine has been a terrific success here, coming from the Bradford School of Management; unfortunately he will be leaving us soon to return to his final year of study and he will be missed. We hope that he has enjoyed the experience too. Matt and Tom will be learning the ropes that they hope will give them a far greater insight to the profession, more than the classroom will ever do. The thought of being able to see how their theoretical knowledge is applied to real life clients is an exciting prospect. This is the first time that Matt and Tom have worked in a Financial Planning firm and they are both eager to see how it operates, and how each role is important to delivering successful plans for clients.
We warmly welcome Matt and Tom to the Manse team, and we are all looking forward to working with them. They came through a very rigorous recruitment process and beat off some very good candidates, so we are both thrilled and delighted to have them with us. It’s going to be a great year for us all.
