Increase in Probate Fees for the Estates of Many

Coming into effect April 2019, probate fees (paid when administering someone’s estate after they die), will now amount to a sum relative to the size of the estate.

Currently, you must pay a flat rate fee of £215, or £155 if you apply via a Solicitor, on all estates upwards of £5,000. However, in April the fees for various estate values will be as followed:

Should you or anyone you know be in the unfortunate position of dealing with the estate of a loved one, whose estate is worth in excess of £50,000, then, if necessary, it makes good sense to submit the application for probate prior to the end of March to avoid the additional costs.
