After graduating from the University of East Anglia with a Law degree and qualifying as a solicitor with a City firm, Mark spent over 10 years practising tax law in some of the UK’s top law firms. Mark advised a wide range of listed and private companies and also worked with high net worth individuals on their tax planning. After completing the “world’s toughest footrace” and with a life-long interest in personal finance, Mark decided on a career change to re-qualify into financial planning. Joining Manse Capital in June 2015 as an Analyst, Mark is now working towards his Chartered Financial Planner status, having completed his Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning in 2014.
In his spare time, Mark is a keen runner and carries his drive and dedication into completing ultra-marathons. After completing the “world’s toughest footrace”, the 156-mile Marathon des Sables in 2012, Mark became an author, publishing Running from Shadows – my Marathon des Sables, and also blogs about his adventures at: www.runningfromshadows.com
What’s the best part of your job?
Putting clients’ life, financial and cash-flow planning together and seeing that lightbulb moment when clients realise “Ah! . . . so we can do x, y, z in 10 years’ time!"
What achievement are you most proud of?
Completing the Marathon des Sables (a 6-day, 156-mile run across the Sahara desert) and returning to the UK intent on a career change to allow two things: a new, more positive role to help people plan to achieve financially what was previously thought impossible or improbable; and to allow the time for running more extreme races.
What extinct thing would you bring back to life?
Well, it’s maybe not yet extinct but I do wonder. People’s positive belief in themselves to achieve, develop and grow.
